Man killed in crash involving police in St. Elizabeth

One man is dead and five others, including two police officers, are receiving treatment at hospital following a motor vehicle collision on the Lacovia main road in St. Elizabeth sometime after 2 p.m. Monday.

 

The deceased is 36-year-old Rayon Forbes, a farmer of Brompton.

 

Acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth Police Division, said the police was in pursuit of a vehicle when the deadly collision occurred. 

 

"The police service vehicle was travelling in an easterly direction towards Santa Cruz when another motor car travelling from a minor road on the left drove out in the road. This resulted in a collision between the two vehicles. As a result of this accident, several persons from the Mark X as well as the police service vehicle sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Black River Hospital," he said. 

 

It's reported that Mr. Forbes died after he was trapped in the gray Mark X motor vehicle he had been driving. Three other men were removed from that vehicle and rushed to hospital along with the two police officers.

 

Acting Superintendent Minto urged the motoring public to "use the roadway with care, drive within the ambit of the law and to ensure that they observe the necessary rules of the road".
