PNP Deputy General Secretary Nekeisha Burchell

The People's National Party (PNP) says comments made by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Heroy Clarke about PNP President Mark are now the subject of legal proceedings.
Mr. Clarke was given until Monday to issue an apology over alleged defamatory statements he made last week.
A letter issued by law firm Hart Muirhead Fatta, on June 7, threatened legal action against Mr. Clarke over the comments made on June 4, in a WhatsApp group of approximately 300 members, about Mr. Golding's relationship with his wife.
PNP Deputy General Secretary Nekeisha Burchell says Prime Minister Andrew Holness should ensure that his party members uphold good principles in public discourse and representation.
She said utterances from some Jamaica Labour Party members are of concern.
"First of all, we have Heroy Clarke, who is a Deputy Speaker of the House. He made reprehensible statements in a WhatsApp group with over 300 participants, falsely accusing PNP leader Mark Golding of committing an egregious offence. This baseless accusation is now the subject of legal proceedings."
She also complained about comments by Minister Daryl Vaz, who she accused of "spewing baseless rhetoric" and "falsely attributing a fictitious poll result to pollster Don Anderson".
Ms. Burchell noted that Mr. Holness, in a speech at a JLP conference on Sunday, stated his commitment to remaining above gutter politics.
She wants him to ensure that members maintain a standard of integrity that all Jamaicans can respect.
"He has stated that his administration is prepared to face head-on those who spread lies and misinformation. We are calling on him to address the falsehoods and misconduct within his own party first," she urged.
