Healthcare practitioners at Annotto Bay Hospital have been plunged into mourning after a 36-year-old medical doctor attached to the facility, became the latest victim of a traffic crash along Golden Valley main road in Castleton, St. Mary early Monday morning.
It's reported that about 5:50 a.m., a blue Honda Fit motor vehicle, which was being driven by another doctor, also attached to the hospital, veered off the road and plunged into a precipice approximately 150 feet deep.
Officers visited the scene and assistance was provided by the Annotto Bay and Stony Hill fire departments.
The deceased, who has not yet been named, was rushed to hospital where he died. He was among four medical doctors travelling in the vehicle.
The other occupants, who also sustained injuries, are being treated.
The deceased was a member of the Internal Medicine Department. The other three are attached to the obstetric, general surgery and internal medicine departments.
Grief counselling is reportedly being provided for hospital staff and will continue into the rest of this week.
The Castleton police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The public is being urged to exercise caution on the roadways and remain vigilant to prevent further loss of life.
