A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Mary Portland, and St. Ann while a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the rest of the island.
The weather alerts will remain in place until 5:00 p.m. today.
A Flash Flood Warning means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.
Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely.
Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.
A Flash Foood Watch means flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.
The Met Service says the broad Trough across the central Caribbean continues to produce a large area of organized showers and thunderstorms across the region including Jamaica.
Observational data indicate that light to moderate and occasionally heavy showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of all parishes, especially northeastern parishes, throughout yesterday.
The forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms to continue across the island, and especially eastern parishes for the next few days.
Due to the periods of rainfall over the last 3 days, there is a high possibility of ground saturation, with flooding and landslides likely to occur.
Additionally, fishers on the Cays and Banks, especially on the south coast, are urged to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will continue to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong winds.
