Money transfer company MoneyGram has confirmed that the personal information of some of its customers was stolen during a cyberattack last month.
In a statement Monday, MoneyGram said on September 27, it determined that an unauthorised third-party had accessed and acquired information on certain consumers.
The company said the affected customers have been notified.
The investigation is ongoing.
The incident first manifested as a network outage on September 20, before being confirmed as a cyber incident on September 23.
The data breach — the nature of which remains unknown — sparked a week-long outage that resulted in the company's website and app falling offline.
Initial investigations show the type of information stolen include names, contact information and bank account numbers.
