Residents across wide sections of Jamaica were shaken Sunday morning when a 4.6-magnitude earthquake rattled parts of the island.
The University of the West Indies Earthquake Unit confirmed that the tremor struck at 8:34 a.m., with shaking reported in Kingston & St Andrew, St Catherine and beyond.
The quake, which originated about 16 kilometres below the surface, was centred roughly 10 kilometres north of Stony Hill in St Andrew.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
However, callers to Radio Jamaica News said the tremor was clearly felt in Hope Pastures and surrounding communities.
Data from the Earthquake Unit indicate that Jamaica has experienced at least three felt earthquakes since the start of the year, including two in February alone.
