More than 60 million votes already cast in US election as Trump and Harris target key swing states

More than 60 million people have cast early votes in the US election, According to the University of Florida's Election Lab.

This beats the early voter turnout record set in the 2020 election - when around 158 million people voted in total.

Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are in the south-west hitting the campaign trail, with just five days to go until the election.

Earlier, Elon Musk failed to attend court for a lawsuit hearing concerning his million-dollar cash giveaways in swing states - US officials suggest the giveaways may break electoral law, which Musk denies.

The race for the White House is on a knife edge.

Neck and neck

Neither Ms. Harris nor Mr. Trump has established a clear advantage in the race for the White House in two key Southern battleground states, according to new CNN polls conducted by SSRS.

Likely voters in Georgia divide 48 per cent for Trump to 47 per cent for Harris, and in North Carolina, Harris stands at 48 per cent to Trump's 47 per cent. Results are within the margin of error in both states, suggesting no clear leader in either contest.
