Mother charged following shooting death of 4-year-old

The mother of a four-year-old girl who was shot dead a week ago at their Manchester home, has been charged. 
 
The 38-year-old woman was charged on Monday with child negligence and breach of duty to securely store a firearm and ammunition. 
 
Her court date is not yet finalised.
 
Ms. Brown was released on station bail. 
 
Her daughter, Gia, was shot at their home on Ingleside Boulevard in Hanbury District last Tuesday. 
 
The police reported that, about 10 p.m., the child, her 12-year-old sibling and the mother were at home when the shooting occurred. 
 
According to the police, the mother told detectives that she put both children to bed and went to the bathroom when she heard an explosion. 
 
Gia was found with a bullet wound to the head and was later pronounced dead at hospital. 
 
The mother, a licensed firearm holder, reportedly had the weapon inside her handbag.
