The Ministry of Education says due to the adverse effects of Hurricane Beryl, including significant disruption to utilities and infrastructure, it has postponed the start of the National Summer Academy 2024.
The programme, scheduled to start on Monday, has been deferred until further notice.
The summer academy aims to improve literacy and numeracy among students.
The Ministry says the decision to postpone the start of the summer programme is to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Assessment of damage is under way and repairs are being done to schools.
Minister of Education Fayval Williams told Radio Jamaica News on Mondat that the preliminary cost to repair the affected schools is close to $800 million.
