Nearly 100,000 people have fled Haiti's capital in one month

The International Organization for Migration says within one month, nearly 100,000 people have fled ??Port-au-Prince to seek shelter from escalating gang attacks.

This comes amid the escalating gang violence in the country.

Between March 8 and April 9, more than 94,000 people left the capital, migrating to an area called the Great South.

The previous IOM figure showed 53,000 people having fled in three weeks between March 8 and 27.

The agency says these figures do not reflect the entire flow as some displaced people do not pass through the data collection points or pass when the data cannot be collected.
