Minister of Mining and Geology Floyd Green says he is unable to say why former Financial Secretary Darlene Morrison was reassigned to the newly established ministry as its Permanent Secretary.
Ms. Morrison's reassignment became public last week.
Mr. Green was responding to questions from The Gleaner's Sashana Small about the circumstances surrounding the transfer.
"Why was Darlene Morrison moved from the finance midterm during the budget call? Did this have anything to do with concerns she may have raised about NaRRA's powers under the Financial Administration and Audit Act or was it because of the Prime Minister's claim last week that some public servants were sabotaging government?" the journalist asked.
Mr. Green said it was "difficult to speak to a reason" for her moving, but defended her expertise.
"What I can say is that the Ministry of Mining and Geology is very happy to have an experienced civil servant who has significant fiscal background. When you look at the body of work that we have to do at the ministry, especially in relation to fiscal reform, it's very difficult to find a better fit," he maintained.
Mr. Green said he has witnessed several movements across ministries and into other areas of government.
He was speaking at Wednesday morning's post Cabinet press briefing.
