Transport Minister Daryl Vaz
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has announced that 60 of the 100 buses purchased for the new rural school bus system will be deployed today (Monday) for the new school term.
There have been concerns about the age and safety of the buses, purchased from the United States.
But Mr Vaz is seeking to assure concerned parents and citizens that his ministry will be monitoring the deployment across several parishes.
More than 200 schools will benefit from the initial deployment, Mr Vaz said.
The government said $1.4 billion was earmarked to purchase, repair and retrofit the buses.
