October 9 trial for fisherman facing cocaine charges

A St. Catherine fisherman charged in connection with the seizure of cocaine during a stop by the police in Portmore is to stand trial on October 9.

Amos Lee, 39, is charged with possession of, dealing in, using a motor vehicle for the conveyance of, and attempting to export cocaine.

The matter could not be heard in the St. Catherine Parish Court on Monday and was put off by Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle.

Prosecutors are alleging that about 6 p.m. on October 17, 2023, members of the Narcotics Division conducted an operation along Port Henderson Road in Portmore, St. Catherine.

It is further alleged that a car was observed being driven in a suspicious manner along the roadway.

The vehicle was intercepted and, during a search, approximately 3kg of cocaine was found concealed inside the vehicle.

Lee, who was driving the vehicle, was subsequently arrested and charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
