Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has acknowledged that the recent changes in US trade policy have resulted in jitters in the private sector across the region.

Dr Holness disclosed on Monday that he has been bombarded by concerns about the future of several sectors as a result of the shift in US policy.

The Prime Minister, speaking at the end of the CARICOM Meeting in Barbados on Saturday, said the posture of the region is to be prepared for any eventuality, stressing that "we can't approach this with any panic."

"We should also accept that (with) these changes, the concern shouldn't only be with disruption in the normal routine of trade, but that there could also be great opportunities for the region," he suggested.

Noting that CARICOM has a "well established office for trade negotiations," he said the regional bloc will be carrying out "a very detailed review of our trade situation with the United States, and we hope that in another three or four months, we will have a document which will give us a policy direction."
