Errol Bascoe has resigned as the People's National Party's provisional candidate for the St Mary Western seat in the next parliamentary election, in light of unspecified allegations.
Mr Bascoe has described the allegations made against him as scurrilous and malicious.
The nature of those allegations was not disclosed.
In his resignation letter, dated Friday, to PNP President Mark Golding, Mr Bascoe said he decided to walk away, recognising the potential impact of the issue on the party's reputation and his need to dispute the accusations.
The PNP says it has acknowledged and accepted Mr Bascoe's resignation.
