The Opposition People's National Party while condemning the arson attack in Gregory Park, has also cautioned against a politicising of the tragedy.

Raymond Pryce, MP Caretaker for East Central St. Catherine, has alluded to posts on social media which claim the attack was politically motivated.

"The trauma is unthinkable, right? And on top of which, there are people who have the effrontery to be putting things out on social media, that among other things calls my name as a sponsor of this nonsense. I can tell you where I am heading to now is to have a couple of these posts forensically assessed," he warned.

Mr. Pryce added that the incident demands collective empathy and support for the affected families.

"It requires the total condemnation of the barbarism and it also requires all civic and community leaders, all political leaders to work in unison with the police and the other agents of the state to bring restitution to the victims and to ensure that this kind of dastardly act is never repeated anywhere on the island of Jamaica," said the caretaker.

He has called for the leadership of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party to refrain from turning the tragedy into what he terms "a political spectacle".

A taxi operator was shot and killed and eleven houses torched during Saturday's attack.

The incident left 47 people, including nearly 30 children, homeless.

The PNP, in the meantime, said it is committed to assisting affected families, adding that it has been providing essential food items as part of the support.
