Dr. Kurt Waul, Councillor for the Old Harbour South Division
By Halshane Burke
People's National Party Councillor for the Old Harbour South Division in the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation Dr. Kurt Waul is crying foul after what he says was his exclusion from the consultations under the multi-billion dollar SPARK Programme.
The programme was launched by the government to rehabilitate roads across the island.
Members of Parliament were mandated to consult with their constituents to determine the roadways in need of immediate attention.
Dr. Waul says he was not included in the discussions to choose the roads in the St. Catherine South Western constituency, represented by the Jamaica Labour Party's Everald Warmington.
He says though he has no issue with the roads that were eventually selected, none was in the division he represents.
"The decision as to what roads to be repaired should be decided during the consultation process. And I was not included, so I am calling on the Ministry of Works, I'm calling on the Prime Minister, and I'm also calling on the Auditor General and the Contractor General if they have any jurisdiction in that process, to come to South West St. Catherine and look as to what is happening because there's some amount of inequity that's happening there," he suggested.
When contacted by Radio Jamaica News, Mr. Warmington said the consultation was an open meeting organised by the Social Development Commission and there was no need for Dr. Waul to receive a special invitation to the event.
Mr. Warmington did not provide a response when questioned about the roads that were selected to be repaired under the SPARK programme.
