PNP renews call for audit of CRH rehabilitation project

Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr Alfred Dawes

The Parliamentary Opposition is renewing its call for an audit of the rehabilitation project at Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James, to ensure accountability and efficient use of taxpayer funds.

Dr. Alfred Dawes, Opposition Spokesman on Health, has expressed concern about the escalating costs and indefinite variations in scope of work at the facility.

His comment follows the release of new budget documents which show that the total cost for the redevelopment of Cornwall Regional is now estimated at $21.4 billion, "with no guarantee for completion at that figure."

"Where is all of that money going?" he asked, observing that $21 billion "is more than it takes to run several important ministries in Jamaica."

Dr Dawes claims there has been mismanagement of the funds, which could have far-reaching consequences for the provision of essential services across various sectors of the Jamaican society.
