Opposition senator Donna Scott Mottley says the People's National Party will seek to expand the composition of the Upper House of Parliament to broaden representation if it forms the next government.
Mrs Mottley, speaking at Tuesday's unveiling of the PNP' s2025 election manifesto "Mission Jamaica Love: A Pledge to Country", said this will allow for Jamaicans in the diaspora, persons with disabilities, and members of the Rastafari and Maroon communities to serve in the Senate, characterising the aim of this move as "incusion for all."
The Senate is a nominated chamber of Parliament, currently comprising 21 members, thirteen of whom are appointed by the Governor-General on the advice of the Prime Minister.
The other eight are appointed on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition.
The Senate mostly functions as a review chamber, considering bills passed by the House of Representatives but may also initiate legislation.
