A police officer died on Wednesday night following a two-vehicle crash along the Linstead Bypass, near Mickelton Road in St. Catherine.
He has been identified as 34-year-old Corporal Navado English, who was assigned to the Spanish Town Police Station.
It is reported that about 11:30 p.m., Corporal English was driving his white Toyota Corolla Axio motor car behind a black Toyota Axio that was being driven by another police officer attached to the Hunts Bay Police Station.
It is alleged that Corporal English attempted to overtake the other vehicle, which was about to make a right turn.
The vehicles collided, which caused Corporal English to lose control of the vehicle which spun off the roadway.
The injured officer was removed from his vehicle by members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and rushed to Linstead General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The other police officer was not injured.
Senior Superintendent of Police Hopton Nicholson, head of the St. Catherine North Police, said the division is shaken by the death of Corporal English.
