The Kingston Central police have increased their presence in the Southside community following a series of arson attacks Thursday by gunmen in the area.
Forty-seven people, including 21 children, are homeless following the attacks.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that at an undetermined number of homes were destroyed in multiple arson attacks along Rum Lane, Rosemary Lane and Foster Lane.
It's reported that shortly after midnight, armed thugs firebombed several homes forcing residents including children and the elderly to flee for their lives.
Deputy Superintendent Eucal Francis, acting head of the Kingston Central Police, said the police will ensure a level of normality is returned to the area.
"Outside of that, in terms of our patrolling, we will also be doing some victim support just to reassure residents as it relates to what we intend to do to ensure their safety," DSP Francis advised.
He said the police have received the names of several persons believed to be involved in the attack.
"Of course, we would have assigned a team to steer the investigation, and whatever information coming to us, we will be sorting through [to] see if we can proffer charges to the individuals."
