Alrick Denton, a vendor in St. Ann

Persistent showers that have been affecting northeastern parishes are putting a significant damper on sales for vendors in St. Ann ahead of the annual Grand Market festivities later on Tuesday.
Vendors in Ocho Rios, St. Ann's Bay and Brown's Town say business has been slow and the inclement weather has added to the challenges.
Radio Jamaica News was in Brown's Town from as early as 5 a.m. Tuesday and observed streets lined with vendors displaying items of clothing, toys, electronics and food.
But vendor Alrick Denton said people are not spending. He is hopeful that this will change.
"Things is not bright. Is the worst Christmas I see. I never see any like this one; this one is the worst I ever see. And we getting it two way. We getting it [because] no money is not spending. I sorry for the people that borrow money. Believe me to God, I don't know how they going to see their way through. And then at the same time the rain is falling.... Despite the weather that is going on, we just hope that people will come out and try to support you know, because it's really bad," he bemoaned.
