Police list prison escapee as main suspect in Rockfort mass shooting

The Police High Command has listed an escapee as a primary suspect behind Monday's mass shooting in Pleasant Heights, Rockfort, East Kingston.

He is 28-year-old Junior Creary, otherwise called 'Whoppa', a construction worker of Carnarvan Street, Kingston.

Investigators are urging Creary to surrender to them for questioning.

Creary was among three prisoners who escaped from the Port Royal Police Station on August 30, 2021.

Another suspect in the mass shooting was fatally shot during a police operation on Tuesday.

Five people were killed and two others wounded when armed men opened fire on patrons attending a football match.

Two of the five victims were said to be "area leaders".

In a bid to control reprisal attacks, the government on Friday announced that a State of Public Emergency has been declared in Rockfort and other areas within the Kingston East Division.

The Office of the Prime Minister says a thorough assessment by the security forces indicates that the elevated levels of violent criminal activity within the designated areas are of such severity and scale that they pose a significant threat to public safety.
