Police say prosecution for traffic violations up 26%

  

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is reporting a 26 per cent increase in prosecutions for traffic violations.

 

Commissioner of Police Dr. Kevin Blake, who lauded the efforts of the police force, also attributed the success to increased public awareness and adherence to traffic laws.

 

He said the increased compliance has also resulted in a dip in the number of road fatalities recorded so far. 

 

"There has been a 26 per cent increase in traffic tickets prosecutions. This is over 72,000 more prosecutions when compared to 2023. We must also commend the citizens for responding to our extensive public education programmes in response to that trending rise in road fatalities experienced back in April. Improving conformity to the road traffic laws and reducing speeding has resulted in a [decrease] of 8 per cent in fatalities," he reported on Tuesday during a JCF press conference.

 

As at July 15, Jamaica recorded 209 road fatalities when compared with 227 for the corresponding period last year.
