People's National Party President Mark Golding has reported the acts of vandalism which occurred in St Thomas Eastern on Sunday to Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake.
Mr Golding, speaking at a party meeting in St James, said he took up the matter with the Commissioner after viewing videos of the incidents circulating on social media.
The vandalising of the posters and other campaign material has sparked political tension in the St. Thomas Eastern constituency.
But Mr Golding has urged PNP supporters to remain calm, declaring "We do not want this to get out of hand; those things can't vote!"
In a video shared with our newscentre, a man was seen using a stick to remove a PNP campaign poster that was mounted on a light post.
In another incident, several people could be seen removing orange coloured fabric from a roadway, leaving behind green coloured paraphernalia.
Some people claimed the men were armed.
But, in response to the PNP's claims Dr Michelle Charles, MP for St. Thomas Eastern, is blaming that party for the political tension that has arisen in the constituency.
In a statement yesterday, the MP declined to condemn the destruction of the posters of her opponent, but instead argued that the JLP has sustained several attacks from PNP supporters.
According to Dr. Charles, over the last few days, PNP activists in the constituency have been removing her billboards and paraphernalia.
She also claimed that a member of her campaign team was beaten last Saturday night by PNP supporters.
A report was filed with the police.
She declared that the PNP must now face the consequences of the atmosphere she claims it has created.
That declaration drew a sharp rebuke from Rose Marie Shaw, the PNP's prospective candidate for the seat in the upcoming election, saying it could serve as an incitement to violence.
