Political tit for tat continues over PNP/KSAMC saga

Senator Marlon Morgan, a member of JLP's Communication Task Force and PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell

Members of the Jamaica Labour Party's Communication Task Force are again calling for the resignation of Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby.

Mayor Swaby has rubbished the claim of the task force of alleged corruption and declared that he would welcome any investigation of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).

Speaking at a media briefing Monday, Senator Marlon Morgan accused People's National Party President Mark Golding of dismissing the seriousness of the allegations of partisan distribution of resources, benefits and access to work by the KSAMC.

"The fact that Golding has not by now fired his general secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell, and insisted on Campbell's removal from his position as a commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Jamaica is further confirmation that Mark Golding is not serious when he claims to support and adhere to the principles of good governance and accountability, particularly among elected representatives and those persons [held] to high standards by the Jamaican people.

"In light of the conflicting statements issued by Mayor Swaby and the leaked audio of conversations which have given rise to the PNP/KSAMC corruption scandal, the Jamaican Labour Party calls for the immediate resignation of Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby," Mr. Morgan declared.

In the meantime, PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell has again threatened to take legal action against the Jamaica Labour Party in the alleged PNP/KSAMC scandal.

Speaking at a PNP meeting on Sunday night in the St. Andrew West Central constituency of Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness, Dr. Dayton accused the ruling Jamaica Labour Party of seeking to create a "scandal" to distract the country from the failings of the administration.

He said he will not allow the JLP to bully or smear his name.

"Get serious if unuh want have a conversation. Dem likkle dibby dibby deh weh unuh a send out, nuh bodda wid dat; come inna di real conversation and put unuh mouth weh unuh money deh, because I want one a unuh call up mi name so I can call on sheriff and cyah unuh up these steps dem go a courthouse," he warned.
