A cry for justice echoed through Emancipation Park in St. Andrew on Tuesday where protestors converged, clamouring for an end to gender based violence in the wake of the killing of Melissa Silvera.
Her husband, Jolyan Silvera, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is to hear his fate when he is sentenced on Friday.
The demonstrators, dressed in black, carried placards that read 'Guilty plea is a strategy #JusticeforMelissa', 'Provocation is now justification', and 'Stop gender based violence'.
Radio Jamaica's Camille Williams spoke with an aunt of Melissa Silvera, who said the family is hoping Mr. Silvera will get a minimum of 25 years behind bars for her killing.
Mr. Silvera's sentencing will be livestreamed on Friday, March 6.
