PSTEB intensifying effort to prosecute unruly motorists

Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie, head of PSTEB

The Public Safety & Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) says it is increasing efforts to take motorists who drive in contravention of the Road Traffic Act before the court.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie, head of PSTEB, says several motorists, who have warrants for their arrest, continue to operate motor vehicles.

"When persons are prosecuted for offences for which they need to either pay or appear in court, what we find is that some of these offences are movable offences, and when drivers have multiple warrants because the matters have not been adjudicated, what is likely to be the case is that persons who continue to drive poorly will be out there driving poorly, maybe causing crashes, and in some instances they themselves might end up being killed on our roads or seriously injured," he lamented.

ACP McKenzie is urging persons who have missed their traffic court dates to call PSTEB at 876-349-9366.
