Speaking after a phone call with the Russian president, Trump said that Putin did say that he will have to respond to the recent attacks on the airfields.
The US President declared in a social media post that the phone call, which lasted more than an hour, would not lead to immediate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
The two leaders also discussed Iran, with Trump saying Putin suggested he could help with nuclear talks with that country.
