Wisynco Group has denied that it was responsible for the release of a substance into the Rio Cobre in 2023, which resulted in a fish kill.

It follows the recent collapse of the prosecution's case against the company in relation to the 2023 incident.

The attorney representing Wisynco Group and partner at Myers, Fletcher and Gordon, Stephanie Ewbank, says there was no report of a broken pipe which caused the spill.

"There was a rupture in one of its pipes, and this is a pipe that leads from the White Marl facility to the Lake's Pen facility. This is way up in the sky. It literally runs over a large area from two different facilities. It was brought to Wisynco's attention by the NEPA officer, and it was immediately turned off. But an important feature which has not been discussed, is where was this leak? Because everybody, whether it is the NEPA or the Director of Public Prosecutions refers to a leak of a substance going into the river, but the location of the leak was above ground," she insisted.

The attorney was speaking Thursday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines.
