Repairs being done on May Pen Bridge

Repair work on the May Pen Bridge in Clarendon is expected to continue until Friday. The May Pen Bridge was closed for hours Wednesday to facilitate repairs.

The Transport and Works Minister, Dr Omar Davies had ordered repairs on the bridge after a story about safety concerns was aired on TVJ's Prime Time News in early February.

The works minister had acknowledged the potential danger of the bridge collapsing and instructed the National Works Agency to ensure the integrity of the bridge.

It has been suggested that the May Pen bridge which is located in the same parish be repaired so that motorists can use it while the by pass bridge is being fixed.  Thirty three million dollars was budgeted for the repairs to the May Pen bridge.

Member of Parliament for central Clarendon, Mike Henry says the current repair work is a continuity of that project. He is hoping that more work will be done on the structure.
