Road fatalities continue to climb

Even as Jamaica reels from the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, the country's road fatality count is showing no sign of slowing.

Despite battered infrastructure and blocked roadways, deadly traffic incidents persist with eight fatal crashes recorded since the start of the month pushing the toll further into dangerous territory.

To date, 330 fatalities have been recorded from 290 fatal crashes.

This is 10 or 3% more road fatalities recorded when compared with the corresponding period of 2024.

Fatal crashes also went up by 5% compared with the same period last year.

The country is projected to record 392 fatal crashes by the end of the year, 27 more than the 365 recorded last year.
