The Parliamentary Opposition is calling for Agriculture Minister Floyd Green to urgently address the escalating soft yam disease that is severely affecting the crop.
Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture Dr Dayton Campbell says farmers in Manchester and elsewhere in the country are badly affected by the disease.
The Ministry of Agriculture has set aside 9 million dollars to assist farmers in their fight against the disease.
But Dr Campbell believes this amount is inadequate.
He's also concerned that the country's food security is at risk if the soft yam disease is not urgently addressed.
Dr Campbell wants the Agriculture Minister to provide details on the programme to assist farmers combat the soft yam disease.
