St. Ann health officials warn against consuming certain meat products

  

Health officials in St. Ann are warning against the consumption of certain meat, meat products and dairy products.

 

This warning comes after several areas remain without power almost two weeks after Hurricane Beryl.

 

Chief Public Health Inspector for St. Ann, Leroy Scott, says several food establishments do not have the equipment to properly store these items amid the ongoing blackout.

 

He says several pounds of meat have been confiscated. 

 

"We have so far condemned in excess of 330 kilogrammes of meat products, particularly meat products from commercial entities which either suffered because they did not have adequate refrigeration or backup power supply to run their refrigeration units and so the products were either spoiled or were in a state that they could not be safely consumed by the public. That activity is still ongoing and even today we have another amount currently being removed from another entity," he reported at a recent municipal corporation meeting.

 

He has advised the public to be cautious of their purchases and to consume products, including non perishables and other shelved items, once they have been opened.  

 

The public health chief said shelved items that require refrigeration must be consumed within four hours after being prepared.
