Deputy Superintendent Balvey Thomas

The St. Catherine North Police Division is attributing its success in the current reduction in murders and shootings in the division to making inroads in the seizure of firearms and ammunition.
Speaking at a Stakeholders Forum in association with the Spanish Town Business Community, Deputy Superintendent Balvey Thomas said three fewer murders were recorded since the start of the year when compared to 26 during the same period last year.
He said 10 people were killed in Spanish Town.
Five were killed in Linstead.
Three individuals lost their life in Bog Walk and another three in Guy's Hill.
But DSP Thomas said 45 of those murders have been solved.
At the same time, 13 illegal firearms, including a rifle, have been taken off the streets.
Pointing to statistics, the deputy superintendent said some of the communities in the division, including Riversdale, Sligoville, Ewarton, Brown's Hall, Glengoffe, and Above Rocks, are some of the safest in Jamaica.
But DSP Thomas said five of the division's most wanted criminals remain on the run. Topping the list is Peter Davis, otherwise called 'Devil Man'. The others are Glendon Amos, from the Linstead area; P. Norman, from Riversdale; Gregory 'Ruff' Ferguson; and Junior Brown. They are all wanted for murder.
In the meantime, DSP Thomas said the Multiple Biometric Identification System linked two illegal firearms that were seized in the division to multiple murders across several parishes over the last three years.
Jamaica's most wanted gun was one of them.
One of the firearms was recovered after a man was killed by police last Sepetember during an alleged shootout in the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine.
