St. Mary police chief confirms report received pertaining to Errol Bascoe

Superintendent Kevin Francis

Acting Superintendent Kevin Francis, commanding officer for the St Mary Police, has confirmed that a report pertaining to principal of Tacky High school Errol Bascoe is being investigated.

The report, which was made to the police last week, has resulted in Mr Bascoe resigning as the People's National Party's provisional parliamentary candidate for St Mary Western.

Acting Superintendent Francis did not divulge details of the report.

Mr Bascoe submitted his resignation to PNP President Mark Golding.

In his letter, Mr Bascoe described the allegations made against him as scurrilous and malicious.

He did not disclose the nature of the allegations, but said he decided to walk away, recognising the potential impact of the issue on the party's reputation and his need to dispute the accusations.

The PNP says it has acknowledged and accepted Mr Bascoe's resignation.
