St. Thomas councillor, Rohan Bryan, has died

PNP Parish Manager for St Thomas Phillip Paulwell and MP for Western St Thomas James Robertson

Rohan Bryan, Councillor for the Morant Bay division in the St Thomas Municipal Corporation, is dead.

Councillor Bryan, also a former Deputy Mayor of Morant Bay, died at Princess Margaret Hospital Tuesday morning following a brief illness.

He was hospitalised on Sunday.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News, People's National Party Parish Manager for St Thomas Phillip Paulwell said the councillor's death was as a result of a heart condition.

"We find it so unbelievable, because he did work tremendously hard recently in the local government elections, where he regained the Morant Bay division seat. I just want to say, again, on behalf of the party, that we regret deeply his passing. We send out our best wishes to his family and to his supporters in the Morant Bay division," said Mr Paulwell.

Member of Parliament for Western St Thomas James Robertson added his own condolence in response to the death of Councillor Bryan, whom he fondly remembers as 'Washy'.

Mr Bryan, he said, was "always positive, always very friendly, always had kept his demeanor constant; he was a good person to be around, and we're going to miss his presence."

The councillor's death leaves the People's National Party with three seats to the Jamaica Labour Party's six in the St Thomas Municipal Corporation.

Mr Bryan was first elected Councillor for the Morant Bay Division on the PNP's ticket in 2012.

He served as deputy mayor from December 2022 until February this year.
