Suriname: Environment authorities probing mystery of dead fish and turtles washing up on beaches near Amerindian village

Suriname environment officials are investigating the cause of the hundreds of dead fish and sea turtles that are washing up on the beaches near an Amerindian village.

The Ministry of Spatial Planning and the Environment said an investigation is ongoing and a statement should be issued soon.

Media reports said for more than two weeks, the residents of Galibi and the surrounding area have had to deal with the stench caused by dead fish washing up from the sea.

The nesting beaches of sea turtles are also littered with dead vertebrates.
