Surname: Two arrested in relation to last month's discovery of 593kg of cocaine on plane

The police in Suriname say that one of their colleagues is assisting their investigations into the discovery of 593 kilogrammes of cocaine on board a plane belonging to the national carrier, Surinam Airways, prior to its departure to the Netherlands last month.

Two people were arrested on Monday night by members of the Narcotics Brigade, bringing the total number of suspects being questioned in connection with the drug seizure to eight.

The authorities say they have been combating a problem of cocaine being concealed among vegetables exported to the Netherlands.
