Suspect wounded in reported confrontation with police in Dunkirk

A suspect has been hospitalised in serious condition following an armed confrontation with the police in the Kingston East Division on the weekend.

It is reported at about 10:50 p.m. Saturday, the police were on an operation along Graham Street, Dunkirk, Kingston 16, when they were confronted by two armed men.

During an exchange of gunfire, the 32-year-old suspect was shot and a firearm seized. The other man escaped.

The wounded man, who was shot in the chest, was taken to hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

A black Taurus 9mm pistol and a magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition were reportedly seized.

The police say the Dunkirk community is an area of concern for the Kingston East Division, owing to conflict between rival gangs in the community.
