A 15 year-old boy on Sunday became the latest person to die in a political motorcade as the political parties step up their campaigning for the February 26 local government election.
The teenager died after falling from a bus in a People's National Party [PNP] motorcade in Portmore, St Catherine.
He has been identified as Lamar Grey of Golf in Gregory Park.
The incident happened sometime before 6 o'clock in the evening in Southboro.
Senior Superintendent Christopher Phillips, commanding officer for the St Catherine South police division, told Radio Jamaica News that the youngster "tried to hop off one vehicle and to catch another vehicle, where he fell and hit his head."
SSP Phillips said the boy was warned by his parents not to leave his home.
This is the third major incident involving political motorcades in the ongoing campaign for local government election.
Last week Sunday 32 year-old Shovin Thompson of a Homestead address, was leaving a funeral when he joined a political motorcade on a Toyota Hiace bus and subsequently fell to his death.
A Jamaica Labour Party supporter lost a leg after a mishap on a truck transporting supporters in St Thomas on Nomination Day on February 8.
SSP Phillips is warning motorists not to engage in dangerous driving while on political motorcades.
The PNP, in response, has expressed sorror at the tragic accident which resulted in Lamar's death.
PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell said the party is committing its unwavering support to the family affected by this terrible tragedy and will assist in any way possible.
In light of this tragic incident, the PNP says it is also stressing the importance of heightened vigilance and attention to safety among supporters while campaigning.
PNP President Mark Golding has also urged supporters to act responsibly during motorcades while on the campaign trail, stressing the need to exercise discipline during these events.
