The Bahamas: No decision made on Chinese labour component - Darville

The Bahamas Minister of Health, Dr. Michael Darville, says no decision has been made on the Chinese labour component that will come with a $290 million concessional loan from the China Export-Import Bank to construct a new hospital in New Providence.

The government has secured the 20-year loan at an interest rate of two percent.

Dr Darville has pledged that the government will be transparent regarding the terms of the loan once it is finalised.

The presence of Chinese labourers on different projects has been a source of contention for Bahamians, though local contractors and Bahamian workers have benefited.
