The Police High Command has ordered a top level investigation into an incident in which two Canadian visitors to the island were handcuffed and locked in a room by a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force during a dispute two weeks ago.
The Canadian High Commission is also monitoring the investigation.
Radio Jamaica News understands that the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), along with the St. Ann Police commenced an investigation into the incident which occured on Sunday May 12 at a property in Great Pond.
It's reported that the two Canadian women were staying at the property when they got into a dispute with one of the waitresses and the supervisor.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the women refused to pay for their meals after complaining about the service.
It's understood that the Detective Sergeant, who was on the property, intervened in the dispute.
It's alleged that he placed the women in handcuffs and locked them in a section of the property after they insisted that they would not pay the bill.
They were eventually released after they agreed to pay the bill.
The visitors then reported the matter to the Canadian High Commission and the St. Ann police.
They also submitted videos of being handcuffed and locked up on the property by the policeman.
The videos have been turned over to investigators.
The Canadian women also complained of sustaining bruises in the incident.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the Canadian High Commission has been in contact with the Police High Command about the treatment of its nationals.
