Traffic routing changes in downtown Kingston take effect on Monday

Effective Monday, December 9, significant traffic changes will be implemented in downtown Kingston to streamline the flow of pedestrians and vehicles.

Heywood Street will be transformed into one way east to west, up to Orange Street, while West Street will be one-way heading south between Spanish Town Road and Beckford Street.

Pechon Street will facilitate one-way traffic heading south between Spanish Town Road and Darling Street and Beckford Street will be one-way heading west up to Orange Street.

Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby says the aim is to ensure greater efficiency and safety in the commercial hub during the busy Christmas season.

He's encouraging motorists to park their vehicles at legitimate parking locations and walking to their destination.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area 4, Michael Phipps, says implementation of the traffic changes will be strictly enforced.
