Transport operators in Half Way Tree and Petra-Kene Williams, Corporate Communication Manager at the Transport Authority
The majority of taxi operators in sections of the Corporate Area are complying with the Transport Authority's regulation for them to wear uniforms on the job.
The Transport Authority said starting today (Monday), it will enforce the regulation.
When RJR News visited Half Way Tree in St. Andrew on Monday, most taxi operators were observed in their black or white shirt and blue pants in keeping with the regulation.
One transport operator who was not in uniform said he was given a warning, but would comply since there is no other option.
Other taxi operators, however, seemed to welcome the rule.
Hackney, express and contract carriage operators are now required to wear the black and white uniform.
Petra-Kene Williams, Corporate Communication Manager at the Transport Authority, said its enforcement team made several checks in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region and other southern areas of the island.
She said most operators were compliant, but those who were not yet up to the standard were educated on how to bring themselves into compliance with the law.
Ms Williams pointed out that the black and white uniform should not be worn by route taxi and rural stage carriage operators as they have already been prescribed their own uniforms.
