Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton is acknowledging the resource constraints faced by the Bustamante Hospital for Children amid concerns surrounding the postponement of an 11-year-old girl's scoliosis surgery at the facility.
The girl's mother has expressed frustration over the delay, citing the hospital's lack of resources in the operating theatre as the reason.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Health Minister emphasised the need for better maintenance of equipment at hospitals.
"We can't continue like this. We cannot. It doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense to spend so much money, buy all of these equipment, [and] the first little thing that comes up, you have to wait six months for it to be repaired, whether it's an operating theatre or a diagnostic machine," said the frustrated minister.
