Two COVID-19 patients from Bellevue taken to hospital

Two of the patients at Bellevue Hospital who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalised.
 
News came on Tuesday that a cluster of cases had been discovered on a ward at the institution, which is located on Windward Road in Kingston.
 
Twenty-one patients and two staff members returned positive results for COVID-19.
 
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquline Bissasor McKenzie, who led a team to Bellevue on Tuesday, told Radio Jamaica News that the two patients who were transferred to hospital were experiencing symptoms of the virus, however, "they have done quite well" and are to be released later on Tuesday.
 
She said the other 19 patients are in isolation and are all well as they are asymptomatic. 
 
The Ministry of Health said infection prevention and control measures are now in place at Bellevue Hospital. 
 
The wearing of masks is mandatory while the ward where the cases are confined will not accept new admissions.
 
The Chief Medical Officer told Radio Jamaica News that a special facility is being established at Bellevue Hospital to accommodate possible future COVID-19 cases. 
 
She said a 36-bed ward that is being renovated and should be completed in January.
