Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has expressed concern about the number of complaints from customers of the Jamaica Public Service Company about poor service, power outages and disruptions.

The complaints come little over a month after the full restoration of power following Hurricane Beryl.

Mr. Vaz, who also has portfolio responsibility for telecommunications, added that he is in receipt of a report from the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) following his request last month on complaints made against the island's two main telecoms providers.

The report shows a total 436 complaints were made between January and August this year.

This is compared with 279 complaints over the similar period last year.

The Energy Minister said customers complained of frequent outages, as well as non-restoration or intermittent service. He said he will be working with the OUR to ensure the situation is remedied.

"I'm in touch with [the OUR] to make sure that they are on top of it in relation to the complaints and also to make sure that the service is restored to its full pre-Beryl status," he noted.
