Floyd Morris, President of the Jamaican Senate has expressed great sadness and shock at the passing of one of his predecessors, Syringa Marshall Burnett, declaring that "we will miss her dearly!"

Senator Morris, who, in his early years in the Upper House, served under the presidency of Mrs Marshall Burnett, told RJR News that he and his colleagues continued to benefit from her advice up to the time of her passing.

"For me it has been a major shocker," he said, recalling that it was only on Thursday that he consulted her in preparation for Friday's sitting, even while she was in hospital.

"She was in good spirits, although she was in the hospital," he reported, adding that her passing represents "a tremendous loss for the country, a tremendous loss for the party that we support."

He added that Senator Marshall Burnett "served the country with distinction," and presided in the Senate "with a firm hand."
