Motorists using Wellington Drive in St. Andrew are being advised that the ongoing road closure has been extended until August 18 to facilitate the continued installation of sewer mains and the upgrading of water infrastructure.
Delano Williams, Acting Corporate Public Relations Manager at the National Water Commission (NWC), says the work should have been completed at the end of July, but he notes that it has since expanded beyond the installation of main sewers to include potable water infrastructure.
The NWC says, there will be no through traffic between Old Hope Road and Mona Road, however, special access remains for residents and essential services.
Mr. Williams appealed for patience from motorists and residents as the NWC works to complete the project.
He said the work is necessary and is being done at a time when it is anticipated that there is less traffic across the thoroughfare due to schools being out, adding that the work is being done in the daytime to further expedite this.
He noted also that installation work continues along Seymour Avenue, Retreat Avenue, and Hopefield Avenue in Kingston, which is affecting traffic flows along Seaview Avenue, Fairway, and Montrose roads.
